It’s Celiac Awareness Month

May 10, 2016

I will be honest here and tell you that I would be incredibly sad if I was told that gluten had to be eliminated from my diet. While we don’t consume much of it in our house, the fact that we can is comforting to me…as I am completely in love with bread and pasta. I sound like Oprah in her Weight Watchers commercial where she says, “I love bread.” I’m with her.

I feel for people who can’t enjoy it, although their lives are the better for it in the case of celiac disease.

Going gluten-free has become a bit of a “thing” in our culture. Michael Pollan refers to it as a sort of social contagion.

Like it or not; adopt it or not, people are looking at gluten and its value in their lives, whether they need to live without it or not, like the small percentage of people honored this month who struggle with celiac disease, the auto-immune disorder that takes gluten completely off the menu if they are to live healthfully.

There’s a lot of great information on the ups and downs and do’s and don’ts of going gluten-free on my site and lots of others. I find that the questions I am most asked have to do with creating delicious gluten-free desserts, so I thought I would share with you what I have experienced as I have created sweet treats for people who need to live gluten-free…or just choose it. I hope you enjoy these ideas.
