Who knew this was a thing? Seems to me we need a day when we take a wee respite from it and hang out with Mother Nature, no gadgets, phones, tablets, e readers, televisions or computer.
And speaking of respites, for the months of July and August, I will be taking some time away from social media to recharge my own batteries. Now, don’t pout. I’m not going away entirely. I’ll just be posting a bit less often to allow us all to look up from our devices and enjoy the glorious abundance of beauty and deliciousness given us by our fragile planet.
As summer really heats up, we look to sweet, succulent fruits to help us keep our cool. Cherries are the perfect summer treat (gee…do you think that’s why nature gives them to us?)…with their juicy flesh and rich mineral content…and they are oh, so yummy.
What? Is she telling us not to cook? Dream on, kids. I am asking you to explore a new idea to add to your repertoire of healthy eating…raw cuisine. And there's no better time of year than summert to explore some of the finest crisp, vital, lively food that Mother Nature provides.
As the first day of summer approaches (yippppeeeeeeeee…) we begin to think…picnic! There’s nothing more fun and relaxing, more leisurely and chill than a blanket on the grass with friends and loved ones than a picnic.
The keys to a great al fresco party are the food and the people. It’s no picnic being surrounded by people who are a drag (see what I did there?), so invite your best…and most fun-loving peeps to an outdoor party.
We all know the power and magic of a smile. We have all basked in the warmth that radiates from someone’s grin when directed at us.
A smile…that silent hello as you pass by a stranger leaves you feeling touched by love. A smile signals acceptance, encouragement and gratitude. A smile can calm anxieties and fears. A smile lets someone know that you care. A smile opens the door to your heart.
A smile tells people they’re valued and that you see them…really see them. Smiles are morale boosters and confidence builders.
As summer moves into its hottest weeks, I think only of peaches…sensual, soft, rich in nutrients and so lush with juice that it runs over our fingers and drips down our chins, cooling us with their sweet, sunny character. I could eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
There's an official day to make life beautiful. The official description of this lovely idea reads: “It is a day dedicated to encouraging and celebrating men and women who are making life beautiful. Whether you’re creating beauty through building relationships or helping others achieve personal success, one small action can lead to a ripple effect, making life beautiful not just for yourself, but for those around you, too.” Too bad it's only one day...but does it have to be so?
