If GMO Labeling Is a Con, Then Con Me, Please

Did everyone see the article on Gawker last week proclaiming that organizations demanding mandatory labelling on foods containing GMO’s is simply a con to get consumers to purchase more organic foods? (Like that would be a bad thing…)

You know, I always try to be nice and to take the high road, meet people where they are and not judge. But GMO proponents just kill me with their slimy rhetoric.

Fast and Easy Breakfast Ideas

Froot Loops, out! Trix, out! Lucky Charms, definitely out!

What can you do to get that same silly smile on your face that you get with a bowl of crunchy cereal in the morning?

How do we satisfy our need for a quick breakfast and our love of dry cereal to start the day?

A Healthy Breakfast…It Makes the Day!

I always say that your mother was right, at least about this one. Nothing gets your day off to a great start like a healthy breakfast. Skipping breakfast sets you up for a rollercoaster of a day with your blood sugars all over the place trying to keep you nourished and balanced.

According to WedMD: “Skipping meals, especially breakfast, can actually make weight control more difficult. Breakfast skippers tend to eat more food than usual at the next meal, or nibble on high-calorie snacks to stave off hunger.

My Go-To Dish

This is one of my favorite recipes for strength and endurance. I love how it makes me feel: strong and relaxed at the same time. Perfect for a tough workout.

Life As a Plant-Passionate Gym Rat

I began my plant-based macrobiotic practice 33 years ago when I was terminally ill. Given about nine months to live, all my attention moved to healing and what I had to do in order to well…live. I was committed to doing what needed doing, what needed changing.

Your Precious Skin

I love The Environmental Working Group. I have found that their research is impeccable and they do not resort to simple scare tactics. But they also don’t shy away from the truth. I turn to them for a lot of information.

This month, as spring springs, we think skin. We want to reveal a dewy lush complexion as we face sunny days and fewer clothes, but it’s important to take care of our largest breathing organ and to know what is in the product we are slathering all over our precious skin.

Ahhhhhhhh...Avocado

Ya’ know, I never really liked avocados…too soft and mushy. The flavor was okay, but the mouth-feel was just not for me. And then one day, my husband convinced me (after much pleading and cajoling) to try his guacamole…and I was hooked forever. What I had considered soft and mushy was actually smooth, creamy and oh, so sensual. I can’t get enough of them.

Here Comes the Sun, Baby!

I told you these days would come. The birds are chirping; the sun shines brighter each day; buds are popping everywhere!

We’re thinking about planting, signing on with a CSA to ensure we have fresh food all summer long, right from the farm to your table.

We smile easier; we feel relaxed. Our shoulders aren’t up around our ears as we brace against the cold. We open, like flowers to the sun and warm our winter-weary bodies.

We all lose our minds just a little in the spring, as we imagine our summer days to come. At least I do.

Multiple Surfaces That Needs Cleaning? No Problem!

I love this simple to make multi-surface cleaner. I use it for just about every surface in my house, from the dining table to granite counters to wooden cabinets. It smells great, disinfects and cleans like nobody’s business. And there’s no need for a boatload of different products!

Clean, Fresh Laundry…No Sweat

My husband and I are both athletes. Robert is a distance runner and gym devotee and I am a gym rat through and through. We also work hard, on our feet most of the day, resulting in what I call “The Always Full and Thoroughly Stinky’ laundry basket.

Sweaty gym clothes, day to day work clothes, towels, sheets and linens mean that I do a lot of laundry…and the cost of detergent (and the dicey ingredients in a lot of them…) was making me crazy.
