If Life is a Bowl of Cherries, Why Do We Feel Like the Pits? - By Christina Pirello

Thursday, February 02, 2012

The New Year is well on its way to being just another year and many of us still feel ‘hung over’ from the holidays: too much indulging, too little sleep and exercise have taken their toll on our bodies. By now many people's resolutions to get fit and healthy have fallen to the wayside.  It’s time to get back on track (or on track in the first place), stay warm in the cold weather (lots of shivery days ahead) and energize our lives once and for all.    Read more

Winter Eating Ain't What It Used to Be - by Frances Abrams

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

I think I’ve become a food snob.  I know that seasonal eating is the preferable way to eat, but now that I’m living in Florida I only eat the freshest, organic produce.  I snub my nose at those plastic wrapped packages of organic carrots and broccoli from California that line the supermarket shelves.  Those packages travelled too far to suit my tastes.  I look for the bins of loose tomatoes that have just been picked and the piles of fresh organically grown corn. Imagine fresh corn in January!  To me, this is paradise.  Read more

Pecan Pie

Sunday, January 29, 2012

A good pecan pie is just the best thing ever. But it’s usually loaded with sugar and calories, making it less than desirable when you are eating a healthy diet, even as an indulgence. Well, this version is still an indulgence, but there’s no simple sugar and it’s truly delicious.

Apple and Berry Scented Quinoa

Thursday, January 26, 2012

I was enlisted to create a healthy breakfast cereal that kids would actually eat and that moms could easily afford and make on a busy morning. It’s high in complete protein, contains fresh fruit, and the added protein of walnuts. Tested on lots of kids, this recipe has won raves every time!

Tempeh Reuben

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

The key to a good reuben is the thousand island dressing, in my view anyway. A traditional reuben is loaded with meat and cheese, but it’s really the oozy dressing we love so much . . . in this vegan version, you’ll whip up a creamy dressing in no time with none of the stuff in the bottled versions that you might not want.  Read more

Resolutions Re-boot

Monday, January 23, 2012

You have two choices, as I see it. This can be the year you get it together and get fit, healthy and vital. Or it can be another year of broken resolutions, self-loathing and squeezing into clothes that don’t fit…and of being uncomfortable in your own skin…because you know, deep down where only the truth resides…that you are not doing what you need to do to maintain your health.  Read more
